A weekly slow-motion spectacle where attendees pick a turtle, follow its progress on a card, and cheer it on amidst cold beers and a live DJ.
Turtle Racing is back at Little Woodrow's Southpark Meadows in South Austin, and if you've never seen it, it's exactly as weird as it sounds. The races happen on the patio with cold beers, a loud crowd and plenty of chaos, all fueled by good vibes and great drinks. It's billed as "South Austin's favorite slow-motion spectacle," and that's a fair way to put itβthe whole thing is a weird Austin tradition that just keeps on giving.
Here's how it works: you pick your turtle at the bar, follow along on a turtle card and cheer on your chosen shell. There are winning prizes, rotating drink sponsors and a live DJ keeping the crowd hyped through each round, so there's more going on than just watching a few reptiles cross a finish line. It's the kind of thing that's better when you're there with a drink in your hand and a crowd around you.
