Thee Marloes play an all-ages night at Radio/East, sharing the bill with Derya Yildirim and the psychedelic soul of Grup Simsek.
Thee Marloes play Radio/East on Thursday, October 22, sharing the bill with Derya Yıldırım & Grup Şimşek. It's an all-ages night, so you can bring whoever you want.
If you're not familiar with the other half of the bill, Derya Yıldırım sings and plays the baglama, backed by the psychedelic soul of Grup Şimşek, with production by Leon Michels. The group calls itself 'outernational' rather than 'international' to suggest a sound that's more inclusive and 'beyond borders' than the usual label. The lineup draws from across Europe: drummer Helen Wells is Berlin-based by way of South Africa, while keyboardist Graham Mushnik and guitarist/bassist Antonin Voyant are both French. Together their collective influences on Anatolian music create a sound that both pushes the genre forward and champions its rich heritage.
