The Yawpers play Radio/East on Sunday, October 18, with Otis Wilkins opening. The Yawpers are a rootsy three-piece that layers a dark, punk-influenced undertow over the blues, playing hard-hitting songs that touch on culture, class, and the emotional trials of ordinary lives. Over fifteen years they've made music that's by turns intimate and anthemic, full of smart storytelling.
Opening the night is Otis Wilkins, the moniker songwriter Taylor Wilkins uses when he's not fronting his fuzzed-out rock 'n' roll band Otis the Destroyer. The name is a family hand-me-down, borrowed from his father's college nickname and later given to his first pet dog. His latest record, The Power Of Stuff, leans more toward indie pop and folk while keeping his heavier sound.
