Weekly competitive open drag stage presented by BTBD, where local drag talent battle for cash prizes and winners are decided by audience applause and lip-sync battles.
The Titty Tournament is back at Oilcan Harry's this Thursday, September 10, hosted by Brigitte Bandit. It's a weekly competitive open drag stage presented by BTBD, which means the lineup changes every time. Local drag talent battle for cash prizes, and the winners are decided by audience applause and lip-sync battles, so the crowd actually has a say in who takes home the money.
Brigitte Bandit is the one running the whole thing. She's an award-winning drag queen, producer, and queer activist based here in Austin, and she's become a political figurehead for the state's drag community. Her work has drawn the attention of Republicans, who have come to dislike her, and she's been profiled by Texas Monthly and KUT. Outside of this, she also runs the Coco Cxnts Drag Brunch and uses her platform to advocate for LGBTQ+ rights and trans resources in Austin.
Because it's an open stage, the performers change from week to week, and the competitive format keeps it from being a standard showcase. The applause and lip-sync battles are the two things that decide the winner, so it's as much about how the room reacts as it is about the performance itself. If you've never been to an open drag stage, this is a good way to see who's currently working the Austin scene.
