Summer showcase of performance art and rituals exploring queer magick and desire through the decades, with original works and immersive group rituals.
Nocturna presents The Moonbow Grimoire: Nocturnal Tales of Queer Magick + Desire on Saturday, August 22, as part of their Summer Showcase. It's an adults-only evening of performance art and ritual, built around the theme of queer magick and desire across the decades.
The night is structured as a journey through queer experience, with each era treated as a space for magick, desire, resilience, and transformation. The bulk of the programming comes from original works by Nocturna's solo student artists, who are guided by three Performance Artistry mentors. Woven between those individual pieces are three immersive group rituals centered on queer pride, sovereignty, pleasure, and living magick.
Nocturna frames the whole thing as an offering of sacred seduction, untamed expression, and embodied magick. The title The Moonbow Grimoire fits that: a grimoire is a book of spells, and here the "spells" are the performances and rituals themselves. It's a showcase of new work from their students, so you're seeing people bring their own interpretations of those themes to the stage.

There are two shows to choose from on the same night. The early show starts at 6:15 PM, with doors opening at 6:00 PM. The late show is at 9:30 PM, with doors at 9:15 PM. Tickets are $44 for general admission and $55 for VIP. The venue is Nocturna, at 605 W 37th St in Austin.
