The Matrix Special IMAX Screening

The Matrix is coming to the Bullock IMAX Theater on Tuesday, August 18, as part of the Paramount Summer Classic Film Series. It's the 1999 sci-fi staple written and directed by Lilly and Lana Wachowski, and it's playing on the biggest screen in Texas.

The story follows a computer hacker who discovers the world he knows is a simulation, and that he has a role to play in the war against the controllers who run it. The film is famous for its martial-arts choreography by Yuen Woo-ping and the 'bullet time' effects that became its visual calling card. Both of those things work better on a screen this size.

The Bullock IMAX Theater is Austin's only IMAX screen, a 400-seat, fully accessible room with a projector that handles both 2-D and 3-D, plus a movie-quality 35mm projector for special prints. The theater is housed inside The Bob Bullock Texas State History Museum at 1800 Congress Ave, but it has its own separate entrance and can operate independently of the Museum, which is why it's open in the evenings and runs extended hours on weekends. The IMAX lobby features a carpet pattern incorporating native Texas flora.

Doors open at 6:30 PM and the film starts at 7:30 PM.
