Exclusive screening of the Gregg Allman documentary with a live introduction and post-screening Q&A with director James Keach and manager Michael Lehman.
ACL Live at The Moody Theater is hosting a screening of Gregg Allman: The Music of My Soul on Tuesday, October 20, at 8 PM. It's a full-length feature documentary about the life and work of the late Gregg Allman, and the night is built around more than just the film: there's a live introduction before the screening and a Q&A afterward with director James Keach and lead producer Michael Lehman.
Keach is a veteran of the music documentary, with credits that include the 2005 Academy Award winner Walk the Line and acclaimed films like Glen Campbell: I'll Be Me, David Crosby: Remember My Name, and the Grammy Award winner Linda Ronstadt: The Sound of My Voice. Lehman was Allman's longtime manager and a close friend, and he's the one who pushed for the film to be shown on the big screen with a professional PA system in venues that had often hosted live performances by Allman, Dickey Betts, Jaimoe, or the Allman Brothers Band themselves. He describes the screenings as not just watching a film but participating in a musical event.

The Austin date is one of more than 40 one-night-only screenings across the United States, so it's a single-night engagement rather than a run. There's also a charitable side to it: $2 from every ticket sold goes to the Gregg Allman Scholarship Fund or a local charity dedicated to supporting live music. The screening starts at 8 PM on Tuesday, October 20, at ACL Live at The Moody Theater.
