Mad Cat Theatre is bringing Jean Genet's The Maids to Smelt House this August, with the run opening Friday, August 7, and continuing through Sunday, August 16. It's a ten-day stretch, so you've got plenty of dates to choose from if the opening night doesn't fit your schedule.
If you aren't familiar with the play, The Maids is Genet's absurdist masterpiece. It follows two lonely sisters who dream of glamour and power in a world where they're invisible, playing games with each other that eventually prove fatal. It's the kind of piece that stays with you long after the curtain closes, and it's a bold choice for a local stage.
The production is being put on by Mad Cat Theatre, a company led by executive directors Maddie Scanlan and Allison Paranka, in collaboration with Dirty Gold Theatre.
