Improvisational jazz jam session with The Lower 99 and Crowns at Sahara Lounge.
The Lower 99 and Crowns are playing Sahara Lounge on Wednesday, August 12, for a night that starts with an improv jazz jam and builds into two full sets. The jam kicks things off at 6 PM, with Crowns taking over at 8 PM and The Lower 99 headlining at 9 PM.
If you're not familiar with the spot, Sahara Lounge is a laid-back music dive in rural East Austin, in a neighborhood once known as the 'Hog Pen'. It opened in 2011 when the beloved BYO-liquor roadhouse T.C.'s Lounge retired, and it's kept a lot of that same spirit: a vaguely African theme, a fenced-in back patio, a big unpaved parking lot, and a tiny corner stage. It holds about 150 people, and the room shakes with rock, funk, Afro-jazz, hip-hop, country, Brazilian and garage rock seven nights a week.

Because it's a Wednesday, the night is built for whoever wants to hang out for as long as they like. You can show up early for the improv jam at 6 PM, stay for Crowns at 8 PM, and stick around for The Lower 99 at 9 PM, or just drop in for the headliner later on. It's a free show, so you don't have to commit to the whole evening to get your fill. Sahara Lounge is at 1413 Webberville Rd. in East Austin.
