Weekly stand-up comedy open mic night with happy hour at The Creek and the Cave, a popular Austin comedy club.
The Creek and the Cave hosts its comedy open mic every Sunday at 6 PM, and it's one of those Austin fixtures that stays the same week after week. The club bills itself as "your favorite comics' favorite Austin comedy club," and it treats this Sunday night as its flagship, calling it "the best mic in town."
If you're not a comic, that's where the fun is. An open mic is where stand-ups bring their newest bits to get them in front of a real crowd. You'll hear a mix of seasoned pros working out a new set and newcomers trying out their first few minutes. Because it's an open mic, the room is all about the process—the jokes that land and the ones that don't—rather than a polished headliner. It's raw, unpredictable, and usually a lot more honest than a standard comedy show.
For the comics, the process is pretty set: they email the club Monday through Friday the week before to get on the bill. The list goes out on Saturday, and anyone who doesn't make the cut can still sign up for a bucket spot on the night of the show. That means the lineup is always shifting, and there's a good chance you'll see someone you recognize alongside a total stranger.

On the practical side, the bar pours happy hour all day, so you can grab a drink before the first comic hits the stage. The room is 21+, and admission is free with an online RSVP, or $5 at the door. It starts at 6 PM every Sunday at The Creek and the Cave.
