The Crafty Adult: 1920s Quilt Block Coasters

Jennifer Connor is leading a sewing workshop at the Hampton Branch at Oak Hill on Wednesday, September 2, from 2 PM to 4 PM. The session is titled The Crafty Adult: 1920s Quilt Block Coasters, and you'll spend the afternoon learning how to make patchwork blocks and sewing them into two coasters.

It's part of The Crafty Adult, a series of hands-on making and crafting activities for adults (18+) run by the Austin Public Library. The 1920s theme isn't random—it's tied to the library's Centennial Celebrations, which mark 100 years of the system as a place of learning, connection, and possibility. The library opened in 1926, so this whole year is about that milestone.

That centennial program runs alongside several other commemorative projects. There's History Harvests, where residents share their own personal histories of the library; the Austin History Center to explore; exclusive centennial merchandise at the APL Shop; and a Centennial Party at Central. This workshop is one of the many ways the library is marking the anniversary throughout the city.
