A family-friendly tree walk and interactive scavenger hunt exploring the native Texas trees of The Confluence, inspired by the monarch butterfly migration.
The Confluence is hosting the Roots & Wings Festival: Texas Tree Scavenger Adventure on Saturday, October 24. It's a family-friendly tree walk and interactive scavenger hunt that takes you through the native Texas trees growing across the park. The whole thing is built around a hands-on adventure for families inspired by nature's journeys: participants make their own monarch wings and then flutter, explore and discover the park, following the monarch migration from Canada to Mexico and collecting stamps as they go.
The venue itself gives the walk some weight. The Confluence is home to the largest downtown tree canopy project in Austin's history, with thousands of native Texas trees growing throughout the park, each with a story to tell. It's also the site of the annual monarch butterfly migration tagging experience, so the monarch theme isn't just for showโit's tied to what actually happens here every year. The creek show returns each November with light-based installations created by local artists, so this is one of several things happening around the park this fall.
