A night of swingin' Rat Pack music reminiscent of Las Vegas in its prime at Parker Jazz Club.
The Copa Kings play Parker Jazz Club on Saturday, August 1, at 7 PM. It's an Austin-based group led by frontman Billy Murphy, and the whole thing is built around the jazz standards of the 1930s, '40s and '50s.
Their repertoire pays homage to some of the country's greatest jazz songwriters and performers. The names they draw from are the ones you know: Frank Sinatra, Billie Holiday, Ella Fitzgerald, Louis Armstrong, Louis Jordan, Dean Martin, and Ray Charles. They describe their sound as swingin' Rat Pack music reminiscent of Las Vegas in its prime, so you've got a good idea of the era they're channeling.
Murphy formed the band out of a desire to breathe new life into those standards, and that's what they do—take the songs that defined the mid-century jazz scene and run them through a live band. It's a set that looks back at the great songwriters and singers of that period, and they're playing it right here in downtown Austin.

Tickets are $20 and $45, and the show starts at 7 PM. The Parker Jazz Club is a 21+ venue, located at 117 W. Fourth Ste. 107-B in downtown Austin.
