A film-themed candle making class with Buffy the Vampire Slayer screenings, snacks, and drinks, where attendees blend custom candles from a curated Buffyverse scent menu.
Mise en Scènt is hosting a Buffy-inspired candle making class at Hyperreal Film Club on Wednesday, September 23, from 7 PM to 8:30 PM. It's the first time the Brooklyn-launched candle maker has run a workshop around Buffy the Vampire Slayer, and the whole night is built around the show.
If you're not familiar with Mise en Scènt, they make scents inspired by cinema. Their notes lean into the atmospheric and the specific—things like 'rusty copper' and 'dusty crypt'—rather than just standard floral or woody smells. For this one, they've put together a curated Buffyverse scent menu, and you'll blend your own custom candle from it. You're not just following a recipe; you're mixing your own version of the Buffyverse to take home.
The evening is themed around The Bronze, the fictional bar where Buffy and her friends spent their nights. While you work on your candle, episodes of the show will be playing in the background, and there will be themed snacks and drinks to keep you going. It's set up as a social thing—hanging out with fellow 'scoobies' while you blend—so it works as much as a night out with friends as it does a solo project.

The venue is Hyperreal Film Club, an Austin pop-up cinema that specializes in movie-watching experiences in unusual, immersive environments and in amplifying local artists. This fits right into that: a cinema-inspired candle maker taking over a film club for a Buffy night. The class runs from 7 PM to 8:30 PM at 301 Chicon Street, Austin, TX 78702.
