Staged reading of the Y2K slasher comedy script Final Decapitation by Amber After Dark at Hyperreal Film Club, with the original unedited script on screen for the audience to read along.
Amber After Dark brings Final Decapitation to Hyperreal Film Club on Saturday, October 24, for a staged reading of a script that's spent more time as a legend than a production. It's a Y2K slasher comedy, and the whole night is built around the original, unedited text.
The script started in 2004 when a high school horror fan wrote it in four weeks as a mashup of early-2000s slasher tropes, stolen dialogue, and teenage melodrama. It went by the working title Final Redrum back then. The original production collapsed when the students refused to stay after class, but the script survived in a memory box and spent the next two decades as an underground read-aloud. This version is directed by Marian Kansas.
What makes this a reading rather than a full play is that the original script stays on screen, so you can read along with every spelling and grammar mistake as the actors work through it. The evening is rounded off with a themed cocktail and concessions. Amber After Dark is the project of Amber Wilson, former Artistic Director of Bottle Alley Theatre Company, host of Goth Prom, and five-time horror trivia champion.
