A music night featuring the Strictly Hardly Marty collective, drawing on jazz, country, blues, swing, folk and Americana, with a special guest each week.
Strictly Hardly Marty is playing at Sam's Town Point tonight, September 1, as part of a residency that runs every first Tuesday from July 7 through December 3. The music starts at 7:30 PM.
Strictly Hardly Marty is the project of a group of Austin musicians who describe their prime directive as playing how they want without over-thinking it. Between them, the core members bring more than 200 years of playing experience, hundreds of recordings, and tenures in some of the city's most beloved bands, including Asleep At The Wheel, Marcia Ball, Robert Earl Keen, Shinyribs, and Jimmy LaFave. Their sound draws on jazz, country, blues, swing, folk, and Americana, and the series welcomes a special guest each week. Past guests have included Bill Kirchen, Marcia Ball, Kevin Russell, Bruce Robison, Emily Gimble, and Rich Brotherton.
The venue, Sam's Town Point, is deeply embedded in Austin's musical scene, camouflaged by a wooded neighborhood beyond Slaughter and Manchaca. It's positioned as the south pole of the city's musical axis—geographically its least visible venue, yet one that has emerged as a happening scene. If you're coming from the center of town, you'll be heading well south of the usual music districts.

Since this is a residency, tonight is just one of several chances to catch them over the next few months. The series runs every first Tuesday through December 3, so if you can't make it tonight, there are more dates to come. The music starts at 7:30 PM at Sam's Town Point.
