Concert by indie pop and dance band STRFKR at Meanwhile Brewing in Austin.
STRFKR play Meanwhile Brewing on Thursday, November 5, starting at 7 PM. It's a single-act bill, so they're the only name on the poster.
If you're not familiar with the name, the band started in Portland, Oregon, as a vehicle for Josh Hodges' songwriting before growing into a full-fledged group with Shawn Glassford and Keil Corcoran, plus a rotating cast of touring members. Since their 2007 debut album, they've toured globally and put out six albums of dance-pop hits. Their live sets have a reputation for being sweat-drenched and laser-soaked, held together by a homemade light show.
Their sound sits at the intersection of indie pop, alternative, dream pop, and indie dance. It's the kind of music that works as well for dancing as it does for listening on your own, and that dance-pop side is what usually carries their live shows. With six albums behind them, they've got plenty of material to pull from, and the light show is a big part of the experience they bring to the stage.
