A tribute to Sterling Morrison and The Velvet Underground with live music, DJ, tattoos and projections.
Tweedy's Bar is hosting a birthday and tribute party for Sterling Morrison on Saturday, August 29, starting at 6 PM. Morrison was the guitarist for The Velvet Underground and later became an Austin legend in his own right, so the night is as much about his time here as it is about the band that made him famous. It's part of the 29th St Block Party, with @subcultureswap.atx taking over the patio.
The music comes from a long bill: Gus Baldwin & The Sketch, Commercial Breaks, Good Looks, The Stacks, and Queen Serene and Sailor Poon. DJ Impotent Fetus will be spinning vinyl throughout the night, and the room will be filled with projections by @tveyemedia. If you're in the mood for something permanent, @hellofriendtattoo will be there doing flash tattoos.

Between the live sets, the DJ, the projections, and the tattoo station, it's a full evening rather than just a few bands in a row. The whole thing is free and open to anyone 18 and over. Doors open at 6 PM at Tweedy's Bar, which is inside the 29th Street Ballroom.
