Indie rock band Spoon performs a New Year's Eve show at the Austin City Limits Live venue, with special guests Alejandro Escovedo and Jo Alice.
Spoon are back at Austin City Limits Live at The Moody Theater on Thursday, December 31, for a New Year's Eve show. It's a homecoming for the indie rock outfit, and they're not alone on the bill: Alejandro Escovedo and Jo Alice are also on the lineup.
The set is expected to pull from the band's extensive catalog, from early hits to material from more recent albums. That catalog now includes Lucifer on the Sofa, their tenth record and their purest rock 'n' roll one to date. It was written and recorded over the last two years right here in Austin — the first set of songs they've put to tape in town in more than a decade.
Frontman Britt Daniel describes Lucifer on the Sofa as "the sound of classic rock as written by a guy who never did get Eric Clapton." It's a shift back toward a stripped-down sound after 2017's Hot Thoughts, which leaned on drum machines and synths. Daniel himself moved back to Austin from Los Angeles in the fall of 2019, so the record is a product of him being back in the city.
