South by Southwest (SXSW) 2027

South by Southwest (SXSW) returns to Downtown Austin from March 15 to 21, 2027. It's a big week for the city, and this edition marks the 40th anniversary of the SXSW Film Festival. The whole thing is built around the idea that the next great breakthroughs will come from human creativity, led by founders, artists, filmmakers, musicians and iconoclasts.

It's a massive spread across three conferences and four festivals. The Innovation Conference runs March 15 to 20, with eleven tracks covering the Creator Economy, Tech & AI, Startups, Brand & Marketing and Design. The Film & TV Festival and Conference run March 15 to 21, and the Music Festival and Conference span seven days and nights, showcasing more than a thousand artists. There's a new SXSW Podcast Festival from March 17 to 20, which gives live recordings and behind-the-mic conversations their own home. The Comedy Festival also runs March 17 to 20.

Most of the action is in Downtown Austin, though the Austin Convention Center is under redevelopment and expansion. The main hubs are scattered: the Innovation Conference is based at Brazos Hall, Film & TV at 800 Congress, and Music at The Thompson Hotel. Film & TV screenings have moved to ACL Live at The Moody Theater. For those with badges, there's a complimentary shuttle to get around, and the 512 Club lounge is open for Austin locals. Accessibility resources are also in place, including designated badges, ASL interpreters, closed captioning and sensory rooms.

SXSW started here in 1987 and has grown into a convergence of creative industries that brings thousands of visitors to town every March. Badges range from $820 to $1,995, and music wristbands are $149.
