South Austin Music celebrates 40 years in business with live music from 12 to 6 PM, featuring Ray Wylie Hubbard and local acts.
South Austin Music is celebrating 40 years in business with a party at the shop on Sunday, September 6, and the afternoon is built around a long run of live music. It's a thank-you to the new faces, the new friends, and the ones who have been around since day one, and the bill is thrown to the local acts that have shaped the store's following over four decades.
Ray Wylie Hubbard is on the bill, and he's joined by a deep roster of Austin regulars. The Sam Band, JD Pendley, Andrew Pressman, John Bradley, Jenny Reynolds, Pike and Sutton, Starkitect, Scotty Bee, Audio Sex Drive, and Dave Scher all have their spots in the lineup. It's a long list for a single afternoon, and the music runs from 12 PM to 6 PM, so you can drop in for a few sets or hang out for the whole thing. The store is the venue, so the party happens right where the business has been for the last forty years.
If you've been around the Austin scene for a while, you'll recognize a good number of these names. The bill pulls from different corners of the local sound, and with the music stretching across six hours, it's more of a day-long gathering than a single show. It's a party for the store and the people who've kept it going, and the lineup is a reflection of the local acts that have been part of that for forty years.
