A joyful exploration of loss and self-discovery, blending breathtaking illusions with storytelling to explore memory, mystery and human connection.
Scott Silven brings his new show, The Lost Things, to the McCullough Theatre in Austin for three performances over two days: Friday, September 25, and Saturday, September 26. Silven is an illusionist, and this is his latest piece, which blends illusions with storytelling to look at memory, mystery, and human connection. It's directed by Graham McLaren and designed by Jamie Vartan.
On the surface, it's a magic show, but the description frames it as a joyful exploration of loss and self-discovery. Silven weaves those elements into a story about connection, relationships, and what he calls the essence of love. The illusions aren't just standalone tricks; they're tied into that narrative, so the storytelling and the magic run alongside each other rather than one taking over. If you're used to magic as a series of disconnected acts, this is a different approach—the illusions serve the story.
Behind the scenes, the show is a collaboration. Graham McLaren directed it, and Jamie Vartan handled the design, so the visual side of the performance is as much a part of the experience as what Silven does on stage. Between the illusions and the storytelling, the whole thing is built around those themes of memory and connection.
