Four Austin tribute bands perform a night of rock spanning generations, from The Clash to Nirvana to R.E.M. to Foo Fighters.
Crow Bar / The Raven Room is hosting Rock the Crow Bar on Friday, August 21, a tribute marathon that puts four Austin bands on one bill. The night runs from 8:30 PM through 12:30 AM, with each act taking a turn at the stage. The lineup spans a few different eras of rock: The Oof Fighters open with a Foo Fighters set at 8:30 PM, followed by Dankeshön doing Nirvana at 9:30 PM, Tommy Gun taking on The Clash at 10:30 PM, and REMnant closing out with R.E.M. at 11:30 PM.
That's four tributes in one night, and they cover a fair bit of ground. You've got the 1970s punk of The Clash, the 1980s college rock of R.E.M., the 1990s grunge of Nirvana, and the post-grunge of Foo Fighters. If you're into any of those, you can come for one set and stay for the rest, or just hang out for the whole run. The bands are all local to Austin, so it's a night of home-grown tributes rather than touring acts.
The organizers are calling it a tribute marathon, and they've added a dress code to the mix: they're inviting people to turn up in their most gothic style. If you've got some black lace or heavy boots in the back of your closet, this is a good excuse to pull them out.
