Neo-retro soul concert by Quentin Moore at Antone's in Austin, a 21+ event.
Quentin Moore plays Antone's on Wednesday, November 25, at 8 PM. He's an Austin-rooted composer and multi-instrumentalist, and he bills himself as the "sexy prototype for neo-retro soul music."
If that description sounds like a bit much, the list of names he draws from helps fill in the gaps. His sound pulls from D'Angelo, Curtis Mayfield, Prince, Al Green, Earth, Wind and Fire, and Marvin Gaye — a lineage of soul and funk that spans a few decades and a lot of different grooves. He's a multi-instrumentalist, so he handles a good deal of the music himself.
Moore built his following on the road, selling out shows on a 2017 tour through Europe and Russia. He broke the top 10 of the UK Soul Chart with his album Black Privilege, and the single "Natural Sista" sat at number one on that chart for six weeks. Back in Dallas, he picked up five local awards in 2017, including Best Funk/R&B Act, Best Vocalist, and Best Album. He's also raised more than $30,000 from fans to fund his recording projects.
