Promise? headlines a night of skramz, hardcore, and heavy metal at Swan Dive on Thursday, July 23. They're sharing the bill with Molly Ringworm, The High Cost of Playing God, and Oshera, and all four bands are Austin-based, so this is a local-only lineup.
If you're not familiar with the terms, skramz is essentially the more chaotic, emotional side of hardcore—think jagged song structures and shouted vocals. Hardcore brings the speed and the energy, and heavy metal fills in the rest. With four bands on the bill, the night covers a fair amount of ground across those styles, and since they're all from right here in town, it's a good chance to see several local acts in one go.
Swan Dive is at 615 Red River, and it's a venue that leans into its dive-bar character. It's got indoor and outdoor stages, and it hosts a mix of live bands, dance parties, burlesque, and its own version of hipster karaoke. The drink menu is heavy on vintage cocktails served at actual booths, and with a capacity of 250, it keeps things on the intimate side. This particular night is 21+.
