An unofficial drag show where local talent represents every era of the pop star, hosted by Fairy Petite and Embry Officially.
Poppyseeds takes over Elysium on Tuesday, August 11, for an unofficial drag show that works its way through every era of the pop star, with local drag talent embodying each one. The night is hosted by Fairy Petite and Embry Officially, who'll be guiding the room through the different stages of the pop star's career. It's a 21+ event.
If you've spent any time downtown, you know Elysium. It's a 500-capacity institution that opened in 2001 and has stayed a shadowy mecca for the city's goths, keeping alive Austin's legacy as a former industrial rock capital. Over the years, it's built a reputation for neo-folk, neo-goth and techno, with scene heavyweights like Combichrist known to divert tours through Texas just to stop by. During SXSW, it's the established home of Japan Nite, a celebration of music from the shadow of Mount Fuji. It was named Best Weekly Queer Clubhouse (Critics Pick, 2019) and has taken home Readers Poll awards for Best Place to Dance and Best Dance Club in years past.
