An Afro/Latino pop-up event with music, dance, and a dungeon, inspired by Pocomania spiritual traditions.
PocoMania - A Sapphic Fantasy Pop-Up takes over Highland Lounge on Thursday, August 20, for an Afro/Latino pop-up that's more of a full evening than a single show. The music kicks off at 10 PM with Majesty of Divinity and Beanz, and from 11 PM to 1 AM, the Dungeon opens up, hosted by Shi Feticcio. Doors open at 9 PM, so there's a good window to get in and settle before the music starts.
The night takes its name and its spirit from Pocomania, an Afro-Jamaican spiritist religion that emerged in the 1860s. It grew out of a blend of Protestant Christianity and African ancestral and spiritual traditions, and its rituals are known for rhythmic drumming, dancing, speaking in tongues, and spirit possession. This pop-up leans into that ritual energy, bringing it into a sapphic space. Around the room, you'll find altars for elemental offerings, a Confessional, and local vendors, and the organizers bill it as something other than the typical 4th Street experience.

Highland Lounge, at 404 Colorado Street, is Austin's premiere gay lounge, patio bar, and dance club, and it's 21+ only. Between the music from Majesty of Divinity and Beanz, the Dungeon hosted by Shi Feticcio, and the altars and vendors scattered throughout, it's a night that builds on itself rather than sticking to one stage. Doors at 9 PM, music from 10 PM, and the Dungeon running 11 PM to 1 AM.
