Parker Jazz Club House Band plays Parker Jazz Club on Friday, August 28, starting at 7 PM. It's a house band night, which means the set is built around American popular songs and jazz standards, with guest musicians sitting in throughout the evening. The lineup is pianist Ryan Davis, bassist Ben Triesch, drummer Jeremy Bruch, and multi-instrumentalist/vocalist Kris Kimura.
Kimura fronts the group and also owns the club. He's a multi-instrumentalist who plays clarinets, flutes, and saxophones, as well as ukulele, trumpet, and flugelhorn, and he sings as well. Jeff Kashiwa once called him the 'Woodwind Samurai,' and that's a fair description of how many instruments he works through in a single night. The house band format keeps things open, so the setlist can shift depending on who stops by to sit in.
The club itself is an intimate 21+ room with soft candlelight, moody lighting, and every seat facing a center stage. It's a jazz spot, but it books non-jazz acts too—country musician Dale Watson is one of them. Every show is livestreamed at parkerjazzclub.com/livestream, and online donations are welcome, with all proceeds going to the Texas Jazz Society.
