The Parker House Band plays Parker Jazz Club on Tuesday, August 4, at 7:30 PM. They're working through some of the most influential American popular songs and jazz standards from the early 20th century, with improvisation at the heart of the set. Guest musicians frequently sit in, so no two shows ever turn out the same.
The group is fronted by owner and musician Kris Kimura, whom Jeff Kashiwa dubbed the 'Woodwind Samurai.' He works his way across clarinets, flutes, and saxophones, and occasionally picks up the ukulele, trumpet, or flugelhorn, alongside award-winning vocals. The set is built around the standards, but the improvisation is what keeps it from feeling like a recital.
The room itself is a basement jazz lounge with soft candlelight and a center stage that every seat faces, with a painting by artist Eric Waugh behind the bar. It's a 21+ venue, so you'll need your ID.
