Hyperreal Film Club is screening Orlando on Wednesday, July 29, at their space on East Chicon. It's Sally Potter's filmic adaptation of the Virginia Woolf novel, with Tilda Swinton in the title role.
If you're not familiar with the story, it's one of the more singular pieces of literature from the early twentieth century. Woolf's Orlando follows a protagonist who lives for centuries without aging, changing gender along the way. Potter's film takes that premise and runs with it, with Swinton playing the character across the eras. It's a movie that leans into the book's playfulness with time and identity, and seeing it on a big screen is a different experience than catching it on a laptop.

Hyperreal Film Club is based at 301 Chicon Street in East Austin, and this is one of their scheduled screenings. The film runs from 7:30 PM to 11:00 PM, with doors opening at 7:00 PM, so you've got a half-hour to get settled before the lights go down. If you're coming from across town, that's plenty of time to find parking and grab a seat.
