Oktoberfest launch with live German music, stein-holding contest and German-inspired food menu.
Lazarus Brewing Co. kicks off its Oktoberfest season on Sunday, September 20, at its Airport Blvd location. The afternoon is built around the Austin Polka Band, who'll be playing live German music from 2:15 to 4:00 PM. If you've never seen them, they're a local polka outfit that does exactly what the name suggests—accordion-led, upbeat, and the kind of thing that's hard to sit still to when you've got a beer in your hand.
Beyond the music, there's a stein-holding contest on the schedule. It's the classic Oktoberfest challenge: hold a full stein of beer at arm's length for as long as you can, with the last person standing taking the win. It's a simple enough thing to watch from the sidelines if you'd rather not be the one shaking, but it's usually the high point of the afternoon. The kitchen is also running a German-inspired food menu for the day, so you can pair your beer with something that fits the theme.

It's a Sunday afternoon thing, which makes it easy to drop in without committing your whole day. The music runs from 2:15 to 4:00 PM at the Airport Blvd location, so you've got a good window to catch the band, grab some food, and maybe enter the contest before the early evening sets in.
