Carousel Lounge is an East 52nd Street dive bar built for casual revelry rather than quiet drinks. It's got a rotating roster of local acts, most of them playing for free, and a decor scheme devoted to elephants. Space is tight, with no more than 100 seats, and the bar deals in cash only—no cards, so it's not a venue for all comers. It's 21 and up only.
