Night at the Museum

Night at the Museum returns to the George Washington Carver Museum, Cultural and Genealogy Center on Thursday, July 30, from 5:30 PM to 8:30 PM. It's a monthly community mixer that brings the broader Austin community inside the museum by spotlighting a Black-led organization and presenting a guest performance artist. This month, the performance comes from Chris Teagues.

If you haven't spent much time there, the Carver Museum preserves and exhibits African American material culture, history, and aesthetic expression. It houses rotating art galleries and four permanent exhibits honoring African Americans in Austin and beyond, and it includes a Genealogy Center with free databases, workshops, and seminars. The venue also has the Boyd Vance Theatre and an indoor atrium available for event rentals.

The evening is built around networking and recognition, with light bites and beverages provided. Cocktail attire is encouraged, so it's a good excuse to dress up a bit for a Thursday night. Entry is free, and the whole thing runs from 5:30 PM to 8:30 PM at 1165 Angelina Street in Austin.
