Closing night screening of the film Montmartre with a live Q&A session featuring director Leon Hendrix III, moderated by Ya'Ke Smith.
AFS Cinema closes out the 2026 Pan African Film Festival on Saturday, August 1, with a screening of Montmartre followed by a live Q&A. The film is a USA/France co-production from 2025, running an hour and 43 minutes, and it's the closing night selection for the festival's Austin series.
Montmartre follows Jo, who, disillusioned with her life, visits the storied French district of Montmartre and falls for Toussaint, a tour guide with a penchant for poetry and romance. The cast includes Ito Aghayere, Jesse Williams, Deborah Lukumuena, Melanie Nicholls-King, and Firmine Richard. It's a romantic drama set against one of Paris's most recognizable neighborhoods, and it comes into the theater as the festival's Audience Award winner for Best First Feature Narrative.
After the film, director Leon Hendrix III will be in attendance for a live Q&A moderated by Ya'Ke Smith. It's a good chance to hear from the person behind the camera about how the movie came together, especially since this is his first feature narrative. The screening is part of AFS's fourth annual Austin series, which brings Los Angeles' Pan African Film Festival to the city to showcase Black stories from around the world. The festival itself was founded in 1992 by Hollywood veterans Danny Glover, the late Ja'Net DuBois, and Ayuko Babu as a nonprofit dedicated to promoting Black stories and images through film, visual art, and other creative expression.
