Austin Flick Clique Summer of Monsters: Night of the Living Dead (1968)

Austin Flick Clique brings Night of the Living Dead (1968) to Sekrit Theater on Monday, September 7, as part of its Summer of Monsters series. It's the George A. Romero classic that basically invented the modern zombie, and seeing it outdoors on a Monday night is a good way to kick off the week.

If you haven't heard of the club, it's run by 15-year-old Hudson Purma, who books classic film screenings every month at Sekrit Theater. He started it to introduce teenagers and families to classic cinema through presentations, discussions, and themed series, and all ages are welcome. Summer of Monsters is now in its third year and celebrates three of the most influential monster films ever made. Each screening comes with film notes and a brief introduction by Purma, who shares historical context and behind-the-scenes stories before the movie starts.

Sekrit Theater itself is one of Austin's more unusual outdoor cinema venues—a private natural amphitheater tucked into the backyard of a residence on the city's East Side. It pairs state-of-the-art projection and audio technology with a laid-back atmosphere, and there's free street parking nearby.

Doors open at 7:30 PM at 1145 Perry Rd. Admission is $5 per person or $10 per family.
