Live dancehall music performance by Michael Monroe Goodman and Manny Velazquez at the historic Broken Spoke venue.
Michael Monroe Goodman and Manny Velazquez are playing The Broken Spoke on Wednesday, September 9, 2026. It's a double bill that stretches across the evening, with Velazquez opening from 6 to 8 PM and Goodman taking over at 9 PM.
If you've never been, The Broken Spoke is a South Austin landmark at 3201 S. Lamar Blvd. It opened in 1964 and still goes by its longtime nickname, "the last of the true Texas dancehalls." The honky-tonk has hosted a long list of country music history—Bob Wills, Ernest Tubb, and George Strait, alongside Willie Nelson and Kris Kristofferson, and Texas regulars like Don Walser, Dale Watson, Kelly Willis, and the Derailers. The menu sticks to homestyle cooking, with the house chicken-fried steak and cold beer leading the way. On Wednesday nights, the venue also runs swing and two-step lessons from 8:30 to 9:30 PM, led by instructor Terri White.

Between the two sets, there's a gap in the music, so you can catch the lessons and get some dancing in before Goodman starts. Manny Velazquez kicks things off early, 6 to 8 PM, and Michael Monroe Goodman follows at 9 PM. The Broken Spoke is at 3201 S. Lamar Blvd, Austin, TX 78704.
