Michael Hale Organ Trio performs a funk, soul and jazz experience at The Continental Club Gallery, with a cover charge and over-21s only.
Michael Hale Organ Trio is playing The Continental Club Gallery tonight, Monday, September 7. It's a late one, starting at 10:30 PM, and it's part of a regular Monday night run at the venue.
The trio is fronted by Michael Hale, a drummer who's spent plenty of time behind some of the city's most recognizable names. You'll recognize him from Tameca Jones, Afrofreque, and Chicken Strut, along with a good chunk of what's been keeping the Austin scene moving. Here, he steps out from the back of the stage to lead the group himself.
As for what they do, the act is billed as a funk, soul and jazz experience. It's a broad enough description to cover a lot of ground, but it puts the focus on the groove—the kind of music that works just as well for sitting and listening as it does for moving around. With Hale on drums and an organ at the center, the sound leans into the soulful, Hammond-driven tradition that fits a late-night Monday set.
