Marshall Hood plays The Continental Club this Sunday, August 2, at 2:30 PM. It's a solo set, and it's part of a regular thing: he plays there every Sunday afternoon.
If you're not familiar with the name, Hood comes from a deep musical family. His uncle, Champ Hood, was an original member of Uncle Walt's Band and played guitar for Lyle Lovett for years. His cousin, Warren Hood, is a fiddler and composer who's worked with The Waybacks and The Bodeans, and leads his own group, Warren Hood and the Goods. Marshall rounds out that lineage with his own guitar work and a knack for writing songs that don't quite fit into one box—they're built around a strong lyrical sense and melodies that stick without trying too hard, in the same vein as the songs his uncle Champ used to write.

Since it's a Sunday afternoon slot, it's a low-stakes way to spend a few hours. The Continental Club is at 1315 S. Congress Ave, right in the heart of South Congress, and there's no cover for the show. One thing to keep in mind: the club is 21+, so you'll need your ID. If you're around on Sunday, it's an easy one to drop into—2:30 PM, no cover, at The Continental Club.
