Collaborative visual art exhibition featuring a new Lotería inspired by the Austin community, with an opening celebration by the creators.
Minerva Villa is the main feature of Lotería: Rostros de Austin, a collaborative visual art exhibition opening at The Museum of Human Achievement on Saturday, September 26. The show centers on a new cartomancy inspired by the Austin community, and the opening night brings the creators together to celebrate the launch.
If you're not familiar with the venue, The Museum of Human Achievement (MoHA) is a community-driven 501(c)3 nonprofit tucked away in a secret corner of southeast Austin. It's a 7,500-square-foot pier-and-beam warehouse with hardwood floors, and the owners say the site was once a sex toy factory. Before MoHA, it housed all things 'Blue': Blue Genie Art Industries, a blue Goodwill, and the Blue Theatre. Since 2012, the space has championed creativity and inclusivity, with its artists and programs gaining local, national, and international recognition.
MoHA does a lot more than just host exhibitions. Its offering ranges from affordable space, rentable studio and office rooms, professional development, digital arts residencies, and workshops, to a production studio and equipment library. They also run a fiscal sponsorship program that helps artists and informal organizations apply for and manage grant funding. The stage hosts immersive installations, film screenings, live theatre, and musical gigs that run from hip-hop to the experimental No Idea Festival and One Ounce Opera.
