A night of shoegaze and dreampop live music with The Radio Broadcast, Daphne Falls and Futon Blonde at Drinks Backyard.
The Radio Broadcast, Daphne Falls, and Futon Blonde are playing Drinks Backyard on Saturday, August 15. It's a three-band bill that the organizers have billed as a night of shoegaze and dreampop, though they describe those as catchy labels to categorize good bands rather than strict rules for the sound.
If you're not familiar with the terms, shoegaze and dreampop usually point toward the washier, more atmospheric side of indie rock—lots of reverb, layered guitars, and vocals that sit back in the mix rather than on top of it. With three bands on the bill, the night should give you a good run of that sound across several sets.
Drinks Backyard is a neighborhood hangout in southeast Austin, located at 6328 Hwy. 183 S. It's the bar closest to the airport (ABIA) and offers luggage storage, which is a handy detail if you're just passing through town. The music happens on an outdoor stage, and the rest of the space is built around hanging out: a 20-foot video wall, shipping container lounges, fire pits, and a pool table. There are food trucks on site serving BBQ, fresh pizza, sushi, and coffee, so you can eat and drink without leaving the venue.
