Live music session with Austin music icon Kevin McKinney at C-Boy's Heart & Soul.
Kevin McKinney plays C-Boy's Heart & Soul on Tuesday, September 8, starting at 6:30 PM. If you've spent any time around the Austin music scene over the last few decades, the name is likely familiar. McKinney is a long-time fixture here, best known as the frontman of Soulhat, where his rootsy rock and soulful songwriting helped carve out his place in the city's music history.
He'll be performing under his own name this time, and the venue carries its own bit of local lore. C-Boy's Heart & Soul is owned by Steve Wertheimer, who also owns the Continental Club; he dedicated the spot to C-Boy Parks, who ran the now-defunct Rome Inn. The club opened on New Year's Eve 2013 and has since earned a reputation as one of the swankiest rooms in South Congress. On Sundays, the back patio plays host to Dale Watson's Chicken Shit Bingo, so it's a place that knows how to lean into the eccentric side of Austin.
Between McKinney's history with Soulhat and the venue's connection to the Rome Inn, there's a good amount of the city's music lineage gathered in one room for this one. It's a Tuesday night show, which means you can catch it without having to work around a weekend crowd.
