Live music performance by Austin music icon Kevin McKinney at C-Boy's Heart & Soul.
Kevin McKinney plays C-Boy's Heart & Soul on Tuesday, July 21, at 6:30 PM. If you've spent any time in the Austin music scene, the name is likely familiar. McKinney is a songwriter, singer, and guitarist born in the Dallas suburbs who later attended Southwestern University in Georgetown, just north of the city. While he was there, he co-founded Soulhat, which grew into one of Austin's most renowned bands. They signed with Epic/Sony Records and played a part in earning the city its reputation as the 'Live Music Capital of the World.' The band's song 'Bonecrusher' became an Austin radio anthem, playing every Friday at exactly 5 PM for the next ten years.
This show is a solo affair, with McKinney taking the stage on his own. It's a good chance to hear him as a songwriter and guitarist rather than as part of a full band. The set is just him.

The venue is C-Boy's Heart & Soul, 2008 S. Congress Ave, billed as the swankiest club in SoCo. Continental Club owner Steve Wertheimer dedicated it to C-Boy Parks, who ran the now-defunct Rome Inn. It opened on New Year's Eve 2013 and still hosts Dale Watson's Chicken Shit Bingo on the back patio on Sundays. On Tuesday, the focus is inside with McKinney on the bill. There's no cover, but it is 21+, so bring your ID. The music starts at 6:30 PM.
