A funny, adventurous play adapted from the Judy Moody book series, following third-grader Judy and her brother Stink on a pirate treasure hunt.
Judy Moody & Stink: The Mad, Mad, Mad, Mad Treasure Hunt opens at the Austin Scottish Rite Theater on Saturday, October 3, and runs through November 1. It's a stage adaptation of the Judy Moody book series by Megan McDonald, brought to the theater by Allison Gregory. The whole thing is built for young audiences, so it's a good one to bring the kids to.
The story follows third-grader Judy and her little brother Stink on a family weekend trip to Artichoke Island. While they're there, they cross paths with a pirate who sends them on a treasure hunt, and they'll have to race against their rivals, Tall Boy and Smart Girl, to get to the prize first. It's a funny, adventurous play that stays true to the spirit of the books, and it's presented by arrangement with Concord Theatricals on behalf of Playscripts.
If you're planning a trip, there are a few practical things to keep in mind. The show runs about 60 minutes, which is a manageable length for younger kids who might struggle with a full-length production. It's recommended for Pre-K through 5th grade, so it's geared toward the elementary crowd. The run spans several weeks, with performances on Saturdays and Sundays at 11 AM and 1 PM, giving you a choice of morning or early afternoon slots.
