A tribute concert celebrating the birthday of Jerry Garcia with performances by Mostly Dead, Flounders, Six Foot Ten, and The Mighty High.
The Far Out Lounge & Stage is hosting a Jerry Garcia birthday celebration on Sunday, August 2, with four bands on the bill: Mostly Dead, Flounders, Six Foot Ten, and The Mighty High. It's a full day of music, and since it's a birthday celebration for Garcia, the whole thing is built around the Grateful Dead songbook.
Mostly Dead takes the top spot, and they're well-known in the local scene for their Dead tributes. They'll be joined by Flounders, Six Foot Ten, and The Mighty High, so you've got four different takes on the material across the afternoon and evening. With that many bands sharing one stage, the music keeps moving from one set to the next rather than centering on a single act.
The celebration is happening at The Far Out Lounge & Stage, located at 8504 S. Congress. If you're coming from downtown, that puts it well down South Congress, so it's a bit of a trek from the center of town, but it's an outdoor venue that fits this kind of day-long event. Doors open at noon, and the music starts then, too, so you can settle in early and stay through the whole run of bands.

Since it's a Sunday, the noon start means the music goes well into the afternoon and evening, making it more of a day's outing than a quick night out. If you're planning to catch all four bands, getting there closer to opening is your best bet. Doors at noon, Sunday, August 2, at The Far Out Lounge & Stage.
