Jelly Ellington record release show with special guests The Mammoths at Radio/East, featuring his album 'Live in Carolina'.
Jelly Ellington brings his record release show to Radio/East on Friday, October 30, with special guests The Mammoths. The night centers on Live in Carolina, his new album recorded live in Asheville, North Carolina.
Ellington is a guitarist, singer, and songwriter who's been an Austin resident for nine years, though he's originally from Asheville. He first picked up the guitar at seven and studied only classical music until he was 14, inspired by the Los Angeles Guitar Quartet and later by Led Zeppelin. He moved to Austin in 2011 with a rock band called Treetop Sailors, and spent years working as a sideman for local rock acts and touring with country bands from Austin and Nashville. Since 2016, he's focused on his own sound, which blends impassioned vocals with Blues-centric guitar playing informed by that classical training. The Austin Chronicle's Austin Music Awards voted him one of the city's ten best guitarists in both 2018 and 2019.
His band for the show includes Alex Geismar on drums, Stefan Ringer on bass, and Cole Gramling on piano, clavinet, and organ. This is Ellington's second live recording: he cut his first live EP at Antone's, the legendary Austin nightclub, and Live in Carolina takes him back to his hometown of Asheville. The record release show brings that material to the stage here in Austin.
