The legendary French psychedelic jazz ensemble Cortex returns to the USA, led by Alain Mion, with special guests Adrian Younge and J.Rocc.
Cortex play Radio/East on Friday, October 16, presented by Jazz Is Dead. They're joined on the bill by Adrian Younge and J.Rocc.
If the name doesn't ring a bell, you've almost certainly heard them anyway. Cortex is a French psychedelic jazz ensemble founded and led by pianist, composer, and vocalist Alain Mion, a Gold and Platinum certified songwriter. Their 1975 album Troupeau Bleu has become a cornerstone of hip-hop sampling, with over 220 documented samples and more than 120 million streams. Artists like Tyler, The Creator, MF DOOM, Madlib, Rick Ross, Kanye West, Baby Keem, and Damso have all reimagined its tracks.
On this tour, the group plays across its entire career, not just the early records. The current lineup features Mion alongside bassist Mohamed Ouaraz, drummer Victor Dubois, and vocalists Virginie Hombel and Sandy Malonga. It's a full band on stage, so the set pulls from their whole discography rather than sticking to one era. This is part of a wider run organized by Jazz Is Dead, who took the group through sold-out audiences across the US and Canada in 2024.
