Solo blues, soul and rock and roll set by Jay Moeller at the C-Boy's Heart & Soul venue in South Congress.
Jay Moeller plays C-Boy's Heart & Soul on Wednesday, September 30, at 6:30 PM. He's coming in from Fort Worth, Texas, for a solo set he describes as a garage mix of raw blues, soul, and rock and roll.
Moeller is half of The Moeller Brothers, a duo that got its start when his father brought home an old set of drums and the brothers began digging through the family record collection. That's where they first found Jimmy Reed, Slim Harpo, the Rolling Stones, and the Kinks—the kind of raw, guitar-driven sound that still runs through his playing. Since then, the brothers have backed a string of blues legends, including Lazy Lester, Sam Myers, James Cotton, and LouAnn Barton, and they're currently members of the Fabulous Thunderbirds.
The venue is C-Boy's Heart & Soul, located at 2008 S. Congress, at South Congress and South First. It's one of the Continental Club owner Steve Wertheimer's spots, dedicated to C-Boy Parks, who ran the now-defunct Rome Inn. It opened on New Year's Eve 2013 and hosts Dale Watson's Chicken Shit Bingo on the back patio on Sundays, while the upstairs bar sits separate from the raucous downstairs in a room modeled after its sister venue just down the street.
