Hyphenated Book Club - My Documents

The Asian American Resource Center is hosting another session of its Hyphenated Book Club on Thursday, September 24, from 6:00 to 7:30 PM. This time around, the group is discussing My Documents by Kevin Nguyen.

If you haven't come across the club before, it's the AARC's recurring series for community book lovers. The whole point is to look at American literature through an Asian American lens, and they keep the range wide—they move from new releases by emerging voices to beloved community favorites, and they cover both fiction and non-fiction. One thing that's worth knowing: you don't actually have to finish the book to take part, though they do recommend it. The sessions are for ages 18 and over.

Knowing the venue helps set the scene. The AARC is a space of belonging and healing for Asian American communities in Austin and beyond, and it does a lot more than book club. It has rental space, cultural, educational, and health-wellness programs, and it runs art and history exhibitions. There's a Senior Program for residents 50 and up, and youth and teen programs built around Asian American literature and the arts. Their Community Art Exhibit Program shows AAPI artists' work year-round. The center is part of The Creative Reset, a city-wide initiative led by Austin Arts, Culture, Music and Entertainment to build a more accessible, inclusive, and sustainable creative ecosystem.
