A homeschool day celebrating German culture with live music, hands-on activities, crafts, and storytime at the Bullock Texas State History Museum.
Homeschool Day: Oktoberfest is at the Bullock Texas State History Museum on Friday, October 9, from 10 AM to 5 PM. It's the first of four Homeschool Days the museum holds each school year, and this one centers on German culture and the contributions German Texans have made to Texas culture.
The day is built around themed, hands-on activity stations, which are paired with specialized classes led by museum educators. On top of those stations, there'll be live musical performances, crafts, and a storytime. If you're coming with kids, that's plenty to keep them busy without needing to stick to a rigid schedule—you can drift between the activities and the live bits as you please.
It's also worth keeping in mind what else is in the building. The Bullock is the state's official history museum, with three floors of exhibition galleries, the Texas Spirit Theater, and Austin's premier IMAX Theatre. If you have the time, you can work your way through the galleries around the Oktoberfest activities.

For homeschool families, admission is free all day, and you don't need to RSVP. If you're coming early, there's a Sensory Hour from 9 AM to 10 AM, before the main event kicks off at 10 AM. The museum is at 1800 Congress Ave, in the heart of downtown Austin.
