An all-short-film showcase with indie films from local, national, and international filmmakers, marking ten years of the Hyperreal Film Club.
Hyperreal Film Club is hosting Short Film Selects on Tuesday, July 21, at their space at 301 Chicon Street. It's an all-short-film showcase, and this particular program is built around eight new shorts from eight different filmmaking teams. The whole thing is presented as part of the club's way of marking ten years of highlighting Austin filmmakers, so it's a local-focused night.
The lineup runs through eight distinct pieces. There's Pants Off, directed by Ethan Valdes; Mold, from Ramiyah Nevaeh Brooks; One Night Cherub, directed by Austin King; and shut the fuck up, when WE speak, from Ryan Darbonne. Then Elephant Stone - Lost in a Dream, directed by Nathan Daniel; LIMINAL, from Keanu Cordero; Fiji and Scout, directed by Fiona Lenfest; and Our First Haunted Home, from Elizabeth Mims. Each one comes from a different team, so you're getting eight different voices in a single sitting rather than a few people doing a double bill.
Because it's a short-film showcase, the whole evening moves pretty quickly from one piece to the next. You'll see eight new films back-to-back, all from local teams, and the program is presented as a brand-new set of work rather than a retrospective. It's a good way to catch a broad cross-section of what's being made around town in one go.
